Reconsidering Jump Packs

I'm probably going to ditch the jump pack blood claws idea, at least temporarily, since I've managed to rustle up a couple of additional old model rhinos, which I wanted to match the rhino I have painted up already. If I put the claws in a rhino instead of giving them jump packs, I can save enough points to fit the attack bikes in and upgrade a few other units.

A blood ancestor of Hakr and Lors Varghoss, Alder Hurd's saga has extended for over 6,000 years. Hurd was a member of the original pack that eventually founded the Great Company of Sea Wolves. He spent the majority of his active duty as a Wolf Scout, leading packs of the most grizzled Sea Wolves into ambush attacks behind enemy lines. After his own body finally gave out defending one of the ancient territorial worlds in his 2000th year, his indomitable spirit was allowed to fight on in the armored sarcophagus of a mighty dreadnought. He still prefers to strike at the enemy's flanks, descending into hostile territory via drop pod.

It doesnt look like you changed your list at all. What does it look like without the jump packs or are you going to wait unitl you get the new Rhinos to make the new list?

Just a question: what do you think about wolf tooth necklesses? Not worth it on Wolf Guard w/ PF or is the Wolf Pelt a better deal?

Also have you played any games with the Blood Claw Jump Packs? Although I had mine w/ JP before the Codex came out I ditched them because of the price and never used them.

wellsir,

i was able to fit in an additional plasma pistol grey hunter and power fist wolf guard in each of the grey hunter squads, give a rhino to the blood claws, and give the rune priest back his runic staff.

i haven't played with jump packs before. it just seemed too expensive plus you guys have those rhinos for me. but i can always go back to that list if i don't like driving them around in the rhino. we shall see.

necklaces have always seemed too expensive. the wolf pelt doesn't always get a chance to work but it's cheap enough to put on the WG for a mere chance at an extra attack.

interestingly - on MEQs, 4 hits at 50% to hit inflicts the same damage as 3 hits at 66% to hit. in other words, if wolf pelt goes off, it does the same amount of damage for 3 points as the 10 point necklace does. the trick is, wolf tooth necklace gives you 1.6 kills guaranteed in the first as well as any successive assault phases, whereas the wolf pelt depends on the counterattack move and only helps out in the first round of assault. but that's the price you pay for 7 points. i couldn't justify squeezing anything else out to change the WGs' pelts to necklaces.

I didnt know that the pelts were soooo cheap. I never took them, although all my Wolf Guard had Necklesses... on a side note my SW never did as well as my old Eldar...

Part of me goes "Aha! I thought so."

Another part of me goes "Oh Crap, I may have screwed myself..."

Seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing your new list in action.

thanks t. hopefully they will be ready for the april BFG hobby tourney (assuming i'll be available myself that weekend), no way i'd let them get anywhere near the 'ard tourney. for that i think i'll be bringing out the bugs. i painted up 7 more genestealers to completion a while back to make one full painted squad... now only 40 more to finish (and fexes, warriors, eghhhhh)
